When I get my wife a gift I do not limit my actions to what she requests. I take her desires and mix them with my resources, my imagination, and my love for her and get her a gift that is in proportion to that. That’s how God wants to bless us. Not according to our resources or mental limitations but in proportion to His infinite ability and love for us.

The question is not in His ability to bless us but in our ability to receive. Our minds will only receive what is comfortable to us. The disciples could not handle it when Jesus calmed the winds and waves because it did not fit in with their paradigm of thinking. It was too big for the box in which they defined what God could do through a man. Other miracles were acceptable and they praised God for them, but this was questioning the limits of their belief system. We need to have things shake us out of our comfort zone like this did with them.

It is only the unhindered power of God that can challenge the mentally ruled life and culture around us. God has never been into debating with the human mind. Belief is not a result of mentally considered evidence but a choice of the heart. “With the heart man believes.” And “nothing is impossible to those who believe.”

Our minds gravitate to the realms of comfort. We take solace in the mediocrity of what we are used to and find a false security in repeating the familiar cycles of our past, all the while longing for something more and yearning to become all God has called us to be.

The answer does not lie in what we desire but in the steps we take. Jesus did not say that whoever desires will find, but rather whoever seeks will find. Seeking is a journey. As we continue to seek we will continue to find. We simply need to allow the Holy Spirit to guide us into the uncomfortable and unfamiliar areas. Always remember that if we are on a familiar road then it will only lead to a destination that I have already been to time and again. To end up in new places we must take unfamiliar paths. The comfort of the past, no matter how glorious, is the enemy of the greater glory that God has prepared for those who love Him.

This is an unlimited promise given to us by Jesus. Jesus never lied or exaggerated He simply spoke the truth. What an unlimited potential we have in prayer.

Could you imagine what any situation would look like if the Great God Jehovah were allowed to do the fullness of His will in it. Using His might, His power, and His resources to accomplish only what He could do. What does that look like?

Is there anything too difficult for God? Does anything intimidate Him or cause Him to worry? He beholds the plans of the enemy and laughs. I think sometimes we forget that prayer actually gets the Living God involved in the affairs of men.

If we understood to whom we are praying then we would expand our vision in prayer. To expect an unlimited God to barely meet our needs would be like thinking that it is too much to ask a millionaire for a penny.

The resources of God are not usually in question. It is our knowledge of the heart, motive, and will of God that limits our prayers. Notice His heart in Genesis when He seeks out Abraham to have him intercede for Sodom and Gomorrah. Whatever Abraham asked God said He would do. He talked him down from finding 50 righteous to just 10. The question is who stopped the conversation? It wasn’t God. Abraham stopped at 10 and limited God from showing His great mercy toward humanity. How many times have we stopped in prayer when His mercy wanted to do so much more?

He always wants to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all we can ask or think. His Word is infinite. His Spirit is infinite. So let’s not limit Him to our finite brains. As we pray we must let the Holy Spirit make up for our limitations and pray out what eye has not seen nor ear heard.

A prayerless life is a life without humility where we are dependant upon our resources to take care of the situations around us. A life of prayer is one in which God and angels are actively ushering Heaven into our daily lives.

Let’s stop limiting God and allow Him to be as big as He wants to be. “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole Earth that He might show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are perfect toward Him.”

The picture that most of the country views as love is the picture painted by the movie and music industries.  People want love more than anything else in life. We are made in the likeness and image of God and therefore love is within our DNA. Love defines us and without it we feel lost and without identity.

Several years ago a romantic movie came out which seemed to do quite well at the box office; it was called “Titanic”. This was the ultimate love story. Even though the ending was a bit ridiculous (as if there was only one piece of wood big enough for someone to float on when a ship that size goes down) it carried the message of someone who was willing to give up their lives in the name of love.

We see this same message throughout all of the most famous love stories. Even as far back as Romeo and Juliet we see people paying the highest price for those they love.

Most people watch these movies and think fondly of a marriage in which their spouse will gladly and heroically give their lives up for them. While our marriages should carry the strongest of bonds that is not why our hearts long for the thought of sacrificial love. It is not our spouses that will fill the void of our hearts but rather our savior.

We were born to have relationship with Jesus our redeemer. He is the Lover of our souls. We don’t need to wonder whether or not He will die to prove His love for us because He already has. While we were yet sinners He died for us. Hollywood makes billions of dollars a year on different ways to tell the story of what Jesus did for us before the foundations of the world.

Our security in His love will dictate our confidence before God, people, and the enemy. His love is so pure toward us that He did not wait for us to love Him but simply chose to love us. Perfect love is not that we first loved Him but that He first loved us.

God’s love toward us is the very thing that conquered sin and death. Because of His love He gave His only son. Knowing that His love is not a response to my goodness and holiness but a choice He made even when I was total sinner secures my relationship with Him each day.

We need to stop looking for a sacrificial love with those around us and simply receive it from the one who offers it every day. When we realize that the Holy Righteous God of the universe loves us beyond measure we can live without fear of rejection and with all boldness throughout life. It is only when we learn to receive His free love that we will be able to love those around us freely.

While flying inside the crater the pilot told us to look at all of the rocks below. He asked if we noticed all of the pea sized pebbles, of which there were thousands. He then informed us that each one of those “pebbles” was about the size of a three bedroom house. That floored me.

Here I was flying around enjoying all that I was seeing yet I was oblivious to the scope and enormity of the environment I was in. It wasn’t until the pilot pointed out the reality of the situation that my perspective shifted and I was suddenly in awe of my surroundings as I realized that I was actually flying around in the middle of a mountain.

Many times this is how we are as we walk out our lives as Christians. We are living and walking by, in, and through the power of God Himself. While we may be experiencing a blessing, I don’t believe we really understand the enormity of the situation we are in.

Without that pilot revealing the scope of things to me I would have left that crater without experiencing the fullness of what was available. I don’t want that to happen to us. I don’t want to get to Heaven and realize that I could have walked in the fullness of God and yet my perspective robbed me of His power and love in my life.

When I lived in Seaside, Oregon we used to have the largest Sitka Spruce tree in the U.S. just outside of town. I took many people there when they were visiting from out of town. It seemed that the reaction was always the same. As we pulled up and parked about 150 feet away from the tree they would usually say, “it doesn’t really look that big to me”. But the closer we got to the tree the bigger their eyes would get and they began to realize that this tree was massive (87 feet in circumference) to be exact. The size of the tree didn’t change yet their perspective of it did.

We need to adjust our perspective of the God that we are walking with; of the God that lives in us today. He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the Beginning and the End. He is the Almighty Creator of Heaven and Earth. He measures all of the oceans in the palm of His hand. He measures the whole universe in the span of His hand. He weighed all of the mountains in a scale and told the seas where they would stop and where the land would start. He is God. And He created you and I personally and individually. We are equipped by that same God. We are filled with the Holy Spirit that hovered on the face of the deep in the beginning and empowered God’s Word to create all things.

Let’s adjust our eyes to see just our Big our God is. If He is for us then who can be against us? What do we have to fear if the creator of all things lives inside us? Spend just 15 or 20 minutes today focusing on the enormity of our God and everything else will fall into its rightful place. Just meditating on one of His attributes  like His goodness, faithfulness, power, or mercy is like looking at a pebble that is really the size of a house. As we do this each day we will see that this is not just a walk through life on Earth but rather a journey with the Creator of Life flowing Heaven into this Earth through us. This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
